Some Waco lots are simply too low or too flat to drain by gravity — and on clay that won’t absorb water, that leaves it nowhere to go. When gravity and the ground both fail you, a sump pump does the job neither can: it collects water and lifts it out to a safe discharge.

When you actually need a pump

Gravity is always the first choice — cheaper, quieter, and never breaks. We recommend a sump only when the grades genuinely don’t allow a gravity outlet: a low lot ringed by higher ground, a flat backyard on heavy clay, or a spot that can’t daylight anywhere. On Blackland clay those lots can’t just let water soak away, so a sump becomes the reliable answer — and it’s the step a lot of companies skip.

How the system works

  • A collection basin at the low point gathers water from French drains, catch basins, or downspout lines.
  • A pump on a float switch lifts the water and pushes it through a discharge line to a safe outlet away from the house.
  • We size the pump and basin to the volume the lot produces, add a check valve, and can add a battery backup for the storms that most threaten power.

Built to keep working

A pump has a moving part, so we set ours up to be maintained — an accessible basin, a discharge you can see and clear, and a design you can service. We walk you through checking it: pour a bucket in, confirm it kicks on and pushes water out, keep the basin and outlet clear. A pump nobody can reach is a pump nobody maintains.

Backup for the storm that knocks out power

The heavy storm that overwhelms a low clay lot is also the one most likely to cut the power — right when the sump matters most. Where a pump is protecting something that matters, we can add a battery backup that keeps it running through an outage and a check valve so the discharge line doesn’t drain back and cycle the pump. On the highest-stakes lots, a second pump adds redundancy. We’d rather build that resilience in than explain its absence after a flood.

Flat, low lot? Bring us the yard that “won’t drain no matter what.” On clay, that’s usually a lot with nowhere to send the water — and a properly designed sump is the fix other companies skip.
