Drainage & French Drains in McGregor, TX

On the western county edge, deep Blackland clay gives way to rockier, rolling ground — variable soils that need reading, not assuming. We design for what’s actually there.

McGregor sits on the western edge of McLennan County, where the deep Blackland clay begins to give way to the rockier, more rolling ground toward the Lampasas Cut Plain — a transitional setting that shows up in its drainage.

Where the clay meets rockier ground

Much of the McGregor area still sits on expansive Blackland clay, with the familiar swell-shut, crack-dry behavior. But toward the west the terrain gets more rolling and the soils more variable — thinner clay over rock in places, deeper clay in the low ground. That variability is exactly why we don’t assume a McGregor lot is like a Waco one: we read what’s actually there, because a thin-soil-over-rock lot and a deep-clay lot drain very differently and need different designs.

Matching the fix to the ground

On the deeper clay lots, it’s the standard Blackland approach: collect the water, carry it to an outlet, protect the slab. On the rockier, rolling ground, controlling moving water — swales, erosion control, well-placed catch basins — does more of the work, with a French drain where groundwater seeps toward the house. Reading which kind of ground you have is the first thing we do.

Every drainage service in McGregor

Whatever the yard is doing, we bring the full range to McGregor:

  • French Drain Installation — Sub-surface drains built for Blackland clay — moving trapped water off your lot and away from the slab.
  • Foundation Drainage — Keep water and moisture swings off your slab on Waco's high-shrink-swell expansive clay.
  • Yard & Surface Drainage — Catch basins, channel drains and grading for the standing water clay soil won't absorb.
  • Grading & Swales — Reshape the ground so water sheets away from the house instead of pooling on the clay.
  • Downspout & Gutter Drainage — Bury and route downspouts so roof water is carried well away from the foundation.
  • Sump Pump Systems — For low, flat lots where clay and grade leave water nowhere to drain by gravity.
  • Drainage Repair — Fix clogged, crushed or failed drains that have stopped moving water.

Read the ground before you dig

The one rule we never skip in the McGregor area is to find out what’s actually under a lot before designing anything, because the ground genuinely varies here — deep clay in one yard, thin soil over rock a few streets away. That changes everything: how deep we can trench, whether water will move through the subsoil at all, and where it can discharge. A design that assumes deep uniform clay can be wrong in both directions on the western edge of the county, so we let the actual ground write the plan.
